Risks in Life :)

I have seen this post on someone's blog and thought of sharing this.

it tells about the Risk that guy had taken. Life is all about risks and overcoming your fears...

So here you go with the post :)

July 2007 was a very happening month in my life.

In the end of June I had been to the US for an onsite assignment.Things did not turn out to be as expected and I returned back home on 3rd July.

When I left the US,I had made up my mind to resign. There seemed to be no other option at that time.

I did not have any job offer in hand. But still,I took a risk and resigned on the 13th of July.

The whole of July went in calculating how to deal with monetary obligations and parallely searching for a job.

Fortunately, the Peoplesoft market was still hot and I posted my resume on monster, jobsahead and naukri.com.

I had started getting calls from the very first day I got back in india. But till the job offer came I was really nervous.I had never been through such a phase before.

Finally on 26th July I did get an offer from IBM.Some other offers followed and I was comfortable again.

But the time, though short was filled with anxiety and nervousness.I would think of how I would deal with the obligations and take care of my family.

By GOD's grace everything went on well and today as I write this post,it has been 2.5 months in the new job.

I dont know how long this would continue, but atleast I am not worried at the moment.

Thank You GOD !!

Let Us Never Forget

Let Us Never Forget

We woke up today to a terrible news. The braveheart girl who suffered the horrifying gangrape in Delhi passed away last night, after an extended battle with her injuries. May she rest in peace.

Now we know the usual drill. Something terrible happens. We outrage on Twitter and Facebook. The politicians shed some fake tears, announce some half-measures hoping we will forget about it soon, we soon forget as expected, and life goes on.

Let that not happen this time. Let us not forget what happened to her. Let this outrage not die down. Let this case serve as a constant reminder of what all is wrong with our society.

Let our government remember that we have had enough. It is time they move beyond half measures, such as claiming to cancel the permit of the bus which didn’t even have a valid permit, or passing the buck across governments or departments, to actually doing something to improve the law and order situation in the country.

Let the government remember that one day the outrage will spill over, and no number of water cannons or expired teargas shells will be able to stop it. Let our leaders realize that they cannot get away with making stupid statements in public, such as Abhijit Mukherjee’s ‘dented-painted‘ comment, or the TMC MP’s comment about a gangrape victim being a sex-worker, or the various comments that try to attribute blame on the victim’s dress, character etc. You are our leaders; show us it means something to you.

Let the police be more sensitive. They are our protectors; let them behave like one. Let the judiciary become a deterrent to stop crime, not a deterrent to citizens who start fearing spending half their life enduring court appearances. Let us stop saying that justice delayed is justice denied and actually show that it means something.

Let our politicians move beyond making money through myriad scams and divisive politics, and actually start doing something for the people who brought them to power. Show us once again that democracy was not just a theoretical concept; that our democracy is not on life-support. Let them serve as role models, and not people for whom the Parliament is about shouting slogans and getting the house adjourned. Because that is actually thwarting the democratic process.

Let the media remember that sometimes it is important to think beyond TRPs, and show some sensitivity. For god’s sake, don’t throw a camera in the face of a grieving relative, or show the live telecast of a funeral procession. Give people some space. Set some boundaries.

Let this also be a reminder to the Indian people that blaming the government for everything will not do. Because it is people from amidst us who are committing these crimes, and getting away because we Indian people have become so insensitive.

Let this be a constant reminder to us that women are to be respected, not groped or molested. That it is us men who need to behave ourselves. That it is not ok if we have our boys playfully make comments about their GI Joe toys raping the girls’ barbies. That we need to get over our sexist attitudes and give women some more respect. I have personally seen educated men working in elite companies make remarks such as ‘women are just show-pieces’ or something even more crass. If this is what education does to us, then it is all a sham.

Let us teach good values to our kids, for they are our future. Teach them the importance of respect. Teach them that everybody is equal. Teach them that life is not only about ‘I, me, myself.’ Teach them that no means no.

Let us try to be good citizens and take more ownership of our cities. Small gestures help. Be nice to your neighbors. Don’t threaten to shoot them over parking disputes. Don’t drive like maniacs. Be courteous to fellow-drivers and try not to run over pedestrians. Don’t litter. Don’t try to bribe your way out of fines. Pay your taxes. Good begets good.

Let us NEVER forget this incident. Let us keep up the outrage, if it helps improve our society. Let us talk – talk about ways of improving things, talk about what we can do to help, talk about the ways for getting us out of this mess.

Let there never be another such case again. Because mankind cannot take too many such incidents without something dying inside each one of us via -@Amreekan Desi

It was not the driver who raped girl...

It was not just the driver who raped her

It wasn’t just the driver and his accomplices. Such monsters are not raised in a day. It takes meticulous planning. The nation has chalked out plans for this incident for 60 years. The citizens have put intricate details in it which has led to this inevitable feat. We will keep planning. This is not the first time. This is not the end.

While they were raping her, India stood guard. We cheered them as we have cheered such psychopaths a hundred times before. We will cheer them in the future too. After all, we created them.

Are you not finding it coherent? Let me indulge you.

Politicians
You are the real termites of this country. The fact that the country is completely hollow because of you does not deter you. You still prowl like a blood sucking vampire and won’t be satiated till you drink the last drop of blood of our motherland. You were given a task. You took an oath of nation building. You could have stopped what happened. Long time back. Had you looked away from your money mongering, your own chairs, you would have realised the pitiable state in which the women of this country live. You would have made laws to make their lives better. You would have enforced those laws. But then they were not your vote banks. They could not turn your chair over. And now you call a rape victim ‘Zinda Laash’ (alive corpse)? You are not helping here to make them feel normal and accepted. Stop using a raped woman to advance your political motives. Stop shedding crocodile tears. Sexual harassment law is lingering in the parliament since 2005. If there is an iota of shame in your soulless body, stop being a virus. You have done enough harm. Do we have to carry you like an albatross around our necks for the rest of our lives?

Law enforcers
Your job is not to scare citizens. Your job is not to harass a rape victim. Your job is not to pass comments on the morality of women when they come to you for help. You are no better than the politicians. The very people whom you should be protecting are scared to come to you. You think that the women who report rape eye monetary advancements out of it. You think they are of loose moral values. And sometimes you even rape an already raped woman who has come to you for help. It is because of law enforcers like you that we are in this state. It is because of you that these rapes happen unabated, because you lack the will to protect. Because you have no idea what your job entails. Because you treat your job as a money-making machine. That girl is fighting for her life in a hospital because of the shameful negligence with which you have carried out your responsibilities over the last 60 years.

Media
You have already pushed the news to page 4 after Narendra Modi’s win in Gujrat. It shows where your concern lie. A story is masala for a few days till a bigger one washes it away. You would have kept the candle burning. You would have encouraged the people to bring the outcry to a logical end. But like the law enforcers, you have sold yourself to the termites.

And Bollywood – Congratulations for providing the much-needed objectifying of a woman’s body through the media. Yes, that is exactly what this sexually oppressed nation wants for entertainment. With all your Chikni Chamelis and Halkat Jawanis, you have done the harm. So, do us a favour. Do not shed crocodile tears for that girl lying in the hospital because you are equally responsible for raising those monsters that night. You have been brainwashing this country since decades – propagating sexual harassment euphemistically as eve-teasing. You have so menacingly raised those street-side Romeos who then splash acid on a girl because they could not differentiate between reality and cinema. Knowing very well that this is a powerful media, you could have changed the course, taken up responsibility. But you too, like the rest, turned things to your advantage. You kicked an already regressive society into the pit of regression in the name of masala entertainment.

And stop portraying rape victims as unwanted and shunned by society. Grow up and snap out of that money-making brain of yours.

We, the Citizens
Yes, we are the worse offenders. The citizens of this nation. Every time we treat our mothers, sisters, daughters and wives as secondary, we contribute towards this choking patriarchal society which then acts as an umbilical chord that feed those monsters. Every time we tell our daughters that they are weaker than boys, we stomp their mind with self-doubts. Every time we stop the education of our daughters because our son has to study, we help those monsters grow manifold. Putting our daughter-in-laws in place, killing girls in the womb, putting restrictions on women, not allowing them to follow their dreams – all these acts have fuelled the events to culminate to the mess we are in right now. We even have the audacity to question the morals and circumstances of a victim since she is not related to us. We have turned into selfish creeps who stand and stare at acts of crime. We tsk tsk rape victims as if it was their fault.

We have been doing this from the last 60 years. Have we not raised these silent equivalent of terrorist camps in our own houses? We have been drawing a dividing line and now it is permanent, raising Frankensteins one after another. Why are we recoiling now? It was we who gave courage to that man to insert a rod in a woman’s vagina.

A society which comes to this does not deserve a second chance. How I wish the Mayans were right.

Mother India has been continuously raped since our independence – by politicians, by law enforcers, by media and by us. She is wounded with bruises filled with pus. And we are that pus. Feeding on her. Killing her slowly. Her own children.

And that is her curse.

No, it wasn’t just the driver and his accomplices who raped the girl that night. And they are not the only one who should be hanged.

Happy Birthday Month

It was my birthday in this month of August. Birthdays, to me have always meant to be the days when you deserve to be pampered, to be cuddled and given every happiness you wish for. And thankfully, I have always been with people who have made sure it remains so. Birthdays bring out the little kid in us every time. With new dresses, lot of presents and a desperate wait for the day to arrive, they are meant to bring the highs of life that not many things can. This one was equally special, and more so because I got to spend it with the best people of my life, after a gap of 2 years. Was worth every moment I have to stay away from them. The love, the blessings and not to mention, the most beautiful presents for surprise. Somethings just prove that no matter how much far we are, how much we say or don't, when the hearts are intertwined, we can listen to each others' wishes. Today, seeing those presents, all I can do is thank the almighty for blessing me with such wonderful people. Should be among the best of the birthdays I ever celebrated. And somewhere, deep down, the feeling is that such birthdays might just not come again. For there might be compromises here and there. There might be surprises much below expectations. And disappointments too. And the irony is: I will choose it for myself and won't be able to change it.

For once, just hoping against hope that I am wrong. That somebody, somewhere will prove this to be wrong.

Life is just going to be a compromise in the end. Why do we, then, keep trying to ensure it doesn't end up being one.

bliss
is finding out soemthing new about someone you have known for ages and even then it is just in time.
bliss
is waiting for a text message and getting it when you have lost hope.
bliss
is YOU.
bliss
is not wanting to wake up from the bed and not feeling guilty about it.

bliss
is listening to music and songs so beautiful that you cannot decide which one was better.

A Call

The boy went near to  phone and sat down. With shaking hands, he picked the receiver up. His palms were wet with perspiration. His teeth were clenched, and he’d grabbed the receiver like it was some catch he was holding on to for his school cricket team.
After days of shaking and oohing and aahing, he was finally going to call her.
Some inner voice told him to relax. He wasn’t going to let this call go waste like all the other calls, (when he’d drop the phone down in terror as soon as it got picked up). He took a deep breathe and relaxed his hold over the phone. He knew he wasn’t completely relaxed, but he had the assurance that he’d written down his lines really well. With his heart pounding against his chest, he dialled the now-all-too-familiar number.
‘Hello’, said a soft female voice. He knew it was her. His heart told him that. His heart was now ramming against his chest. For a moment he thought his rib cage was in danger.
‘Hello.’ He replied, his voice shaking, left hand fumbling for the piece of paper. There was an awkward pause. He read from his paper, and his confidence came back. ‘Is it Ishita?’
‘Yes,’ came the unsure reply… slightly hesitant. ‘Who is this…???’
Bingo! This was exactly as he’d thought would be, and written down on the paper.
‘You down know me, but I know you very well’. Pat came his own reply, with an almost audible smirk. This was cool! Things were going exactly as he’d anticipated.
‘Oh really? How’s that?’
Now he was jumping up and down. Man! what a genius he was. Those were the exact words he’d written down on the paper. Oh, what a coup!
‘Like…you know sachin?’
‘Sachin, who Sachin?’
EEEYYYYAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH…..
‘Sachin, arre don’t you know Sachin Tendulkar?’ World Cup 2011
‘Nope’.
The word was like a 1500W imersion rod to his ears. What a dumbass this chic is. His euphoria suddenly evaporated. This wasn’t supposed to be so. Everybody knows Sachin. Oh, Well. Never mind. Everybody knows Shahrukh, too.
‘Strange. You don’t know Sachin. Well, what about Shahrukh?’
‘Who Shahrukh?’
‘C’mon. Shahrukh. Shahrukh Khan. Don’t tell me you don’t know Shahrukh Khan.’
‘Well, I have no idea who he is.’
He was flabbergasted. The chic was supposed to say that she knew Sharukh and then he’d ask her did Shahrukh know her, to which she was supposed to reply that he didn’t and he’d say Lo! You know Shahrukh but Sharukh doesn’t know you, in same way, you don’t know me, but I know you very well. That was what he’d written down in the paper. Everything that had started off so smoothly was in chaos now.
‘Well, Amitabh, then. Amitabh Bachchan?’
‘No.’
He was really desperate now. ‘Hrithik! what about Hrithik? Hrithik Roshan? Dhoom part 2′, Kites, Guzarish
‘No.’
This was turnig out to be the worst conversation he’d had all his life.
‘Well then, whom do you know?’ he cried over the mouthpiece in desperation.
What came next was something he’d remember all his life.
‘GADHE! Mein TUJHE jaanti hoon. KHABARDAR jo aaj ke baad meri BETI ko phone kerne ki koshish ki toh!!!’
SLAM!

In a state of shock, he slowly replaced the receiver. He wanted to die now.

I beleive therefore I am

I found this on one blog .. but the same thing is happening to me also.. so without any modifications, i am writing this here

One thing has always been in mind  i.e. ” If i do wrong with anyone,be it physical, mental or any other way .. the very next moment God punishes me with small/big accidents, ill health, same thing happening to me …. and if at all i forget in my ego or pride that i did wrong to anyone, these punishments always remind me”  and I totally believed that it happens with everyone around!!!
I always believe in the above but somehow its slowly going away… the faith in this is just going weaker….
i see wrong people/friends getting stronger and stronger and they dont even realize they are doing anything wrong… if by chance I opened my mouth and tried to make them realize tht they were wrong … you know what i got???  thrown out of their life/friendship or whatever you can call…
My Nature:  if a stray animal is treated badly, i take a stand for it and take some action so that it is not treated like tht again…. same applies with human being… if i see someone is treated badly for no mistake of his/hers, i take tht person’s stand and try to explain the rest that “guys wht u are doing is totally wrong and am not going to be a part of it but support the other person!!! ”  ….
now does that mean i am standing against my friends? i just took the side of the truth which has proper evidences tht the person is infact telling the truth!!!
i didnt do any back stabbing … if i took a decision or took some action, i made sure my friends knew about it beforehand….
so why is this ill treatment?
so, i stand for goodness and all i get is cussing and more cussing !!!
i am so so so much frustrated right now.. already many more things are not leaving my problem-plate and now this!!!
day and night i keep thinking, what to do… my inner-self or ego is so much discouraged/damaged…
all i want right now is that they realize what they did to me was totally wrong and get back together …
this is not for them!!! yes i am being selfish here.. this is for my self confidence which right now says “Dhiru ... Just stop believing in people and be selfish from now onwards.. friends care a shit about u ..they just use you and thts how u will be from now with others” …  if this feeling has to go , then definitely i want them to realize what they did to me was totally wrong and we all get back together … o yea i m writing it again …  bass bahot hua bakwass!

Kal mere office ki Light Chali gayi

just going through my gmail archives and found some simple and sweet words...

Aaj hamare office mein light chali gayi. PC band , AC band .. uff jaan nikal gayi

kaafi der jab 'bijli' waapas nahi aayi
kisi ko window ki yaad aayi
window khuli.. thandi hawa se pura floor bhar gayaye
hawa..jo..roj chalti hai .....

elevators nahi chal rahi thi
kuch logon ko stairs bhi dhundni padi
aare ... stairs toh jaldi pahuncha deti hain
haan ye such hai..and ye stairs baaki days pe bhi yahi hoti hain

aur maine kya kiya ...maine usse dekha jo khidki se bahar dekh rahi thi
woh haansi ... achi dikhti hai yaar...haan bhai.. woh roj hi achi dikhti hai ....

she asked ... walk ? ..maine kaha haan chalo ..we talked and talked ..
'project','C++','coding','no issues','mail','reply' in words ke binabhi kaafi saari baaein ho sakti hai doston..
by the way ....she has chin dimple..when she laughs that is

tumhara favorite actor kaun hai .. mera shah rukh ..she said
maine kaha mera bhi ....she asked really ? kyon ?
i said nahi tum hi bataao .. (saala fus gaya)
 aur .. actress ..usne puchcha
sharmila tagore ... i said. she said ..aare but she is so old ...
she said "auh.. very funny" (girls say that a lot hai naa!)

she said haan aur kya ...hum wapas nikle ...kuch log ghar bhag rahe the..
ek ne chalte chalte .. apne pm se phone pe kaha ..sir ab toh main ..bus mein baith gaya hoon
and woh chal padi hai ..will send that doc tomorrow ...
we looked at each other .. she laughed again .. her dimple ..

toh .. hum pahunch gaye apne apne cubicle
saarein log toh bhaag gaye the
aur hum dono ne ....apna apna kaam karna chalu kiya
…actoron ki dunia se hum 'no issues' ki duniya mein aa gaye ..mails and messanger
and documents and POC and ....

ab 8 baj gaye..chalo ghar jaana hai
maine duur ka rasta liya ... uske cubicle ke baaju wala
woh abhi baithi hai .. i smiled.. she smiled back..gettin late haan ?
i said nahi .. abhi time hai..haan baaaaaas.. ye ek mail ...she said

We took the stairs ..yaar sahi mein stairs jaldi pahunchaati hai (kyon !!)

khuli saas lene mein kya harz hai
Usko ko haske 'hi..' to keh hi sakte hai
forwards toh bahut bhejte hai ..koi personal si mail bhejne mein kya harz hai ....Kyonki doston…
light jaayen yaa naa jaayein
Ye hawa to roj hi chalti hain
saaamne wale cubicle ki ladki…. roj hi sunder dikhti hai..... ;-)

A Very Interesting Case

Murder / Suicide.. A VERY INTERESTING CASE ....
At the 1994 annual awards dinner given for Forensic Science,
AAFS President Dr Don Harper Mills astounded his audience with
the legal complications of a bizarre death.

Here is the Case:

On March 23, 1994 the medical examiner viewed the body of Ronald
Opus and concluded that he died from a shotgun wound to the
head. Mr. Opus had jumped from the top of a ten-story building
intending to commit suicide. He left a note to the effect
indicating his despondency .As he fell past the ninth floor his
life was interrupted by a shotgun blast passing through a
window, which killed him instantly.

Neither the shooter nor the deceased was aware that a safety net
had been installed just below the eighth floor level to protect
some building workers and that Ronald Opus would not have been
able to complete his suicide the way he had planned.

"Ordinarily," Dr Mills continued, "A person, who sets out to
commit suicide and ultimately succeeds, even though the
mechanism might not be what he intended, is still defined as
committing suicide." That Mr. Opus was shot on the way to
certain death, but probably would not have been successful
because of the safety net, caused the medical examiner to feel
that he had a homicide on his hands.
In the room on the ninth floor, where the shotgun blast
emanated, was occupied by an elderly man and his wife. They were
arguing vigorously and he was threatening her with a shotgun.
The man was so upset that when he pulled the trigger he
completely missed his wife and the pellets went through the
window striking Mr. Opus. When one intends to kill subject "A"
but kills subject "B" in the attempt, one is guilty of the
murder of subject "B".

When confronted with the murder charge the old man and his wife
were both adamant and both said that they thought the shotgun
was unloaded. The old man said it was a long-standing habit to
threaten his wife with the unloaded shotgun. He had no intention
to murder her.
Therefore the killing of Mr. Opus appeared to be an accident;
that is, if the gun had been accidentally loaded. The continuing
investigation turned up a witness who saw the old couple's son
loading the shotgun about six weeks prior to the fatal accident.

It transpired that the old lady had cut off her son's financial
support and the son, knowing the propensity of his father to use
the shotgun threateningly, loaded the gun with the expectation
that his father would shoot his mother.Since the loader of the
gun was aware of this, he was guilty of the murder even though
he didn't actually pull the trigger. The case now becomes one of
murder on the part of the son for the death of Ronald Opus.

Now comes the exquisite twist. Further investigation revealed
hat the son was, in fact, Ronald Opus. He had become
increasingly despondent over the failure of his attempt to
engineer his mother's murder. This led him to jump off the
ten-story building on March 23rd, only to be killed by a shotgun
blast passing through the ninth story window. The son had
actually Murdered himself, so the medical examiner closed the
case as a suicide.

Happy Father's Day

I am a software engineer who was migrated temporarily to Chennai to improve my career growth. I am the first graduate in my family and my father used to repair TV and Radios. He is not doing that job now as it requires good eyesight. Today i am here because of my papa. He taught me the value of hard work and patience. I still hear the words of advice he shared with me, they keep me going in life.

I had completed my engineering and was going for PG in Chennai. He was dropping me off at the railway station. This is what he told me during that time.

"beta, I am 48 years old and I am not able to work much as i used to do earlier. You have to take care of the family, your brothers and yourself.

Also, keep this in mind always, learn to earn people more than money, because money won't help you to become a good human. Do the right thing and help those that you can."

papa , I am grown now and earned more money and earned many more people. I love you papa.

Vishy ---> The great :)

Viswanathan Anand, our Indian grandmaster, defeated Veselin Topalov, a Bulgarian, on Tuesday in the 12th and final game of their world championship match. Vishy retained his World Champion status. :)

This is probably Anand's greatest win because the match was an ordeal, a test of mental strength and, at the end of it, Anand stands like one of those epic heroes who triumphs over everything thrown at him, not without luck, not without having vulnerabilities exposed, but having demonstrated an inspiring combination of courage, will power, grit and ability.

The first reason the match qualified as an ordeal was that Topalov committed himself to the so-called Sofia rules, which meant no light draws were offered, play continued till the position was completely dead. Instead of getting the occasional easy day, where after 25 moves both players say, "this position is more or less equal, let's not bother trying to find a win".

Secondly, Anand was delayed getting to Sofia because of the Icelandic volcano. He had a 40 hour road trip to cope with, and asked for a three day postponement, but was given only a day's extra time. He lost the first game, possibly because he was still suffering the effects of his journey. Being down a point in a twelve game match is serious. but he recovered.. not only recovered but won the championship also.. :)

Congratulations to Anand and INDIA for his success :)

Wish You all a very Happy and Bright New Year

It’s that time of the year again to reflect on how we have fared in the year which is about to draw to a close and to make New Year resolutions – promises to ourselves that something in our lives will get better, our finances, our relationships, our career. My friend used to tell everyone around this time of the year that he has kept all the resolutions he made the year before, and when everyone looked suitably impressed, he would add, “See, I kept them all in my wallet!”

Let us not allow another year to pass us by, with our hopes and dreams still far away in the never never-land. Let us today, right now, make the decision that 2010 will indeed be the best year of our lives. Let the coming year be the time that we discover our true passions, the time when we set out to live those passions. No more excuses, no more justifications. Let’s make it a “life and death” priority for indeed it is life and death. For who among you wants to be part of a community of what I call the “walking dead”? People who would wake up each day, go to work at a job they are indifferent to, go to lunch with people they are not excited to be with, go home for dinner with people they love but have lost the passion for, watch TV programs that fail to excite or thrill, and then it’s off to bed and another same old, same old day. People who are just “occupying space”. Sad, but true for so many, if you care to admit it.

So before you heave a big sigh and wish you had not started to read this “depressing” article, let me assure you – there is hope yet! All of us can live our dream lives. It is within our grasp and within our control, and not meant to be left to ‘fate’ or the whims and fancies of some Higher Power out there!

All it takes is the courage to say to yourself, “Yes, I have one life to live and I want to live it the best way I possibly can. 2010 will be the best year of my life!” Shout it out loud, with real conviction, and I promise you, the moment you have put this desire in your heart, doors will open up that you have never seen before. People who can help you will magically come into your path. It will be as if the whole universe has heard your voice and is moving to help you achieve your dreams.

Not convinced? Well, ask yourself, what do you have to lose to believe and to act on your belief?

You can start by learning how to seize each magical moment in 2010. And to do that, you need to put on new “glasses” that are specially designed to help you recognize special moments in your life. It can be good things and blessings that you enjoy currently but have taken for granted. And of course as you start looking for the magic in each event in your life, you learn to create magic moments. And viola, you have the best year of your life!

someone said , “When we are committed to claiming the moment, we look upon, create and invent our ordinary experiences as something extraordinary. We become a magnet for the unique and special. The lens through which we view life shifts, and we become seekers of the divine in every moment. To see with new eyes, to become aware of the blessings we hold, to create new intimate moments each day – these constitute a spiritual quest. This is the art of making the ordinary moments of your life extraordinary.”

Kisi ki aankhon ka sitara hoga

Can engineers be 'Touchy feely'?

Chetan Bhagat said these words in an interview. Can engineer's be a touchy Feely. Well i think i don't fall in this category, still posting here for you guys/gals to read.

I remember the incident - I was in a restaurant, and one girl in our group was especially charming. So I, like any other male, tried to put on a wooing act. You know the routine, a nanosecond extra eye contact, a few more nods to whatever she says, and attempts to throw in those one-liners which you know you wouldn't if she weren't there. And it seemed to be working. She leaned forward when she spoke to me, and every now and again, we'd have a small conversation of our own, separate from our group. She laughed at my approach with the fork and knife, and I teased her about her hair band, which had little teddy bears.

Yes, we were flirting. A while later, she asked me the question - what did I study? I said engineering, without any particular meaning attached to it. And then like a cold metal rail, she went stiff. My jokes weren't funny anymore. Her eyes wandered to everyone else.

What was it?

Why? Why? Why?

Two days later, I still couldn't get over my great start that had dissipated listlessly upon mentioning my education. Engineer? What was wrong with that?

My mom had wanted me to become one since I was five! I had to call her. 'So what happened to you that day, hot and cold, missie?' And then she said, trying to be nice, 'Well, it's just that I am skeptical about engineers as friends. I don't know, they can be, you know, very logical and everything. Not very touchy feely'.

Not touchy-feely. Now what the heck did that mean? Well, she obviously did not mean it literally, since girls don't really suggest that sort of stuff, certainly not in the first meeting across the table. I guessed it was something to do with feelings, sort of having an emotional side. The stereotype being, the nerdy guy who sees relationships like laws of physics, to whom love is just a bunch of chemicals going crazy in your brain, and getting to know a person means obtaining their bio-data.

It's time to set the record straight. It's true that a lot of what engineers study (and they end up studying quite a lot), has to do with formulae’s, laws and numbers. No matter how hard we try, some of the vocabulary we read all day gets into our language. So when my mother said, 'Are you getting married next year or not?' I was liable to say, 'Well, at this moment in time, the probability is relatively low,' and felt it was completely normal to say it. And when my sister went sari shopping and couldn't explain the shade she wanted, I told the shopkeeper the percentages of pink, orange and red in the sari.

Yet, ladies, I don't think we're bad at relationships, love and getting to know people. We too, can be touchy-feely, as that is part of our education as well. The reason for this is that most engineering students live in the ultimate educator - boy's hostels.

Now, let me explain how this plays into this 'touchy-feely' thing. Relationships. Imagine eating, sleeping, brushing your teeth, bathing (ok rarely this one) and partying with the same people all the time. So, when you are kicking that bathroom door down for the tenth time, or when you stand in line for 'gulab-jamuns' in the mess, and when you are done with the vodka bottle and sharing all your secrets, you know it is good practice.

Yes, hostels make the man.

So, next time you are in a flirtatious situation with the techno types, go on, flirt a bit more. Of course, I am biased towards my kind, but if you find the conversation turning too geeky, just ask them, 'So, what were your hostel days like?' and chances are, you'll see a heart behind the calculator.

Coming back to my missie, I thought of what would make me win her over. Flowers. too cheesy. Music. don't know her taste (nor trust mine). Teddy bears. don't even go there. Desperate for some good lines, I just turned it right back at her. 'Yes, I know what you are saying about engineers. The thing is, unless people with depth like you start hanging out with us, we won't get any better. Can you meet me some time for some touchy/feely. oops, I mean coffee/tea?'

She giggled. When they giggle, you have won.

Hence proved.

Altruism: A really nice story

Here is the story I liked: Shared by one of my friend.

A reporter once asked a farmer to divulge the secret behind his corn, which won the state fair contest year after year.

The farmer confessed it was all because he shared his seed with his neighbours.

“Why do you share your best seed corn with your neighbors when you’re entering the same contest each year as well?” asked the reporter.

“Why sir, said the farmer, didn’t you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbors grew inferior corn, cross-pollination would steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I must help my neighbours do the same”.

This is so true with situations in our lives. Those who want to be successful must help their neighbors, friends, relatives to be successful.

Those who choose to live well must help others live well, for the value of a life is measured by the lives it touches. And those who choose to be happy must help others find happiness, for the welfare of each is bound up with the welfare of all.

This story exemplifies “Altruism.”

Meaning of Altruism: ‘Action that benefits another person, including comforting, helping, sharing, rescuing and cooperating. Acts of concern for other people without any hope of reward’.

Hope you liked

one of my diary enteries

Date: 2nd November 2008 Place: Vapi(Gujrat)

Hey kittu…

You know what happen today … I am having an interesting stuff to share with you. Well as you know I am in Vapi, at my cousin brother’s place. So we went for a movie “Golmaal Returns”. We mean me, my brother and my bhabi ji. Well, movie was awesome. While coming back from the movie this lovely incident happened. My brother was driving the car and I was on his side. Bhabi ji was sitting at the back. We just came out from the underground car park and were in the queue to go out from the barrier gate. A gal about 5 to 7 feet on my left was on her active vehicle. When I look at girls usually, I don’t look for more than 2 seconds because if she looks at me I feel uncomfortable.
This girl was about 5’3 tall, average body, fair, wearing salwaar kurta and modern but homely but very cute or what to say beautiful. She had a 5% resemblance with my one old friend. So I kept looking at her to figure if I know this girl. You wouldn’t imagine what’s happening right?
Well I was looking to my left and suddenly she turned right and saw me. I felt very embarrassed; I just turned my face straight like a good boy. After 15 seconds again I looked at her. She again saw me again I felt shy and turned straight. This thing happened 3-4 times. My brother and bhabi ji was also watching this comedy and laughing at me. So I told them she is also seeing me so this time I am going to look at her and will not turn straight until she stop seeing me. Again I saw her and she saw me. We were seeing to each other for like 20-30 seconds. OHH MY GAWDDD…. It was so so different. Means I was looking at stranger eyes. I couldn’t take any further I just smiled and turned straight, she too smiled and turned straight. Then the car started to move. I was like I am missing something. We almost went to the barrier gate to leave the theater premises.
I told my brother what a lovely girl she is. I missed her, I told them let me look at her one last time. I turned back and saw her. Well kitty, you wont be believing what she did. She waved her hands from far.
1000 lights in my body. I was so impressed and was flying in the air. I told to my brother, hey bro I want to talk to her just stop the car. Well my bhabi ji said he is flirty guy just don’t stop. And winking at me … I requested bhai please please …. So bro stopped the car, I got down …and I was just standing there doing nothing. She saw me from the far. She also crossed the barrier and came near me and asked what happened. I said just nothing just want to talk to you. She said ok talk. I again felt speech less. Then she laughed and said hey dhiru come on, talk now. I am here. I was shocked how she knows my name. Then I turned back and saw my bhaiya was laughing. She was my old classmate and now she was living near to my bhaiya’s neighborhood. I was so so embarrassed or what to say not able to speak anything. I simply went inside the car and called bhaiya. Come bro lets go home. Bhabi was simply continuously laughing and pinching me hey raja , that girl is cute na , beautiful na. I was feeling so shy I just kept my head on cupboard.
Kitni choti duniya hai na ye …  well she came to home in the evening and we talked about our old days. what we talked i will let you know later.... ;)

Mujhe ab Dar Nahi Lagta

Ehsaas

This Poem i found on Big B's Blog.. one of his fan has written this in comment section. A nice touching poem.
